SAFE USE OF POWER TOOLS

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) put a duty of care on people and companies who own, operate or have control over work equipment.

PUWER requires that ALL equipment provided for use at work is:

• SUITABLE FOR INTENTED USE.
• SAFE FOR USE, MAINTAINED IN A SAFE CONDITION AND INSPECTED TO ENSURE IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED AND DOES NOT SUBSEQUENTLY DETERIORATE.
• USED ONLY BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE RECEIVED ADEQUATE INFORMATION, INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING.
• ACCOMPAINIED BY SUITABLE HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES, SUCH AS PROTECTIVE DEVICES AND CONTROLS.
• USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS, FOR MOBILE WORK EQUIPMENT AND POWER PRESSES.

WHAT IS WORK EQUIPMENT?

Work equipment is any machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation for use at work, this includes an individual's own tools used at work.

Full editions of the PUWER regulations can be downloaded from the HSE web site, they also produce a brief guide, indg291, and we have provided a copy for you to download free of charge.

To help you comply with your duties we have produced a 1/2 Day training course covering the inspection of equipment, PPE before use, the safe use and maintenance of equipment.

1/2 Day course for 1 to 15 candidates £75 + £10 PER PERSON.
